Life Lesson #1 From Bear
I remember vividly a very brief conversation with my mom that really opened my eyes to something pretty huge I might say. Yes, my mom’s name is Bear. Actually, it is Loretta Rose, but her family called her Boots or Bootsee growing up. Any of those 3 names sound so sweet? Right?!? Well, sometimes names just don’t fit and you have to rename a person. After a few years of being married to my dad, raising a ton of girls (and the abundance of hell that came with that), her name was officially changed by the family to Bear/Inside, Bear/Bear Dog. You see, that woman had to handle a ton of stuff and she just didn’t have time for nonsense! Just picture a house full of women and all the drama that could have lived there. Well, Bear’s house wasn’t going to have any of that!
Let’s get on to my life lesson. I was a young, tender teen whose heart was broken. The boy I loved more than anything in the world just wouldn’t love me back. It is a common story yes, but trust me, my story was worse than any other teen on the planet. Ha ha! I was in my room crying my eyes out for the first time in public. For some reason I had the door open, so I must have been looking for someone to console me. Out of the corner of my eye, I see my mom walk by then take a step back to peek in the door. Instead of saying, “Oh honey, what’s wrong?”, she says “What are you crying about?” In my most dramatic first-time boy problem delivery I can conjure up, I say, “Roman broke up with me!” Guess what she said? Nope, that’s not it. Nope, that’s not it either! Bear’s words for me, her sweet baby daughter, were
“For the love of God, you’re going to be in love with someone else next week!”
Yep, no hug. No story of a long lost love that also broke her heart and yet, she survived kind of words. No, it was a “pull yourself together woman” short, sweet conversation. I remember sitting there thinking, “What the heck mom?”
But guess what happened? Next week I came running in the door to tell my family about the new love of my life, John. You see, my mom was on to something and was obviously grooming me for this business where I would get dumped all the time…and so will you! You just have to know that John is right around the corner, and so is Kevin, and Chris, and so many others you won’t even remember their names as you’re telling your story.
You see, my lesson is this:
People are going to come and go in your business. Some of which you may have even thought you were going to marry, have kids with, and spend eternity with. Yet, they felt differently. So are you going to let them take you down? Nope. Are you going to second guess what an incredible partner you would have been for them? Nope. Are you going to open up your heart to be loved again? Heck YES!!!
You see, Roman obviously missed out on one hell of a wife, but if I would have thrown in the towel and said men just must not be for me, I would have never met Dave. The one true love of my life!
In my Arbonne story, I had my first love, Gina. She came into my business on fire. Sure, I had dated before and had some good flings, but Gina was the one and we rose to the highest level of the company together. We were on top of the world and were on our way to being the biggest VPs in the company. But then Gina’s feelings changed. She took herself out and I had a decision to make and the lesson I learned from Bear so long ago helped me to make the right one. I did my hair, put on my makeup, put an irresistible smile on my face and headed right back out open to meeting the person of my dreams. Guess what? I did! I met a lot of them!! I of course still have some bad dates and still get dumped, but holy cow my VP team is incredible and better than I could have ever imagined! So, if you are sitting there in your room waiting for me to come in and console you, you are going to be waiting for a long time.
My words for you are this,
“For the love of God, you are going to meet your ACE next week!”
With love,
Your Bear Cub
She is a wounderful mother and raised tuff independent women. The boyfriends were more afraid of her than our marine father. Luv u sis.
So true!!! Except for Steve Simas. He would just bring her milk straight from the dairy and still warm. Melted her heart every single time. Gross!
I love this! Thank you!!
You are so welcome! I hope it helped you in some way.
